The fifth book of the illustrious Hindu epic Ramayana is referred to as the Sunderkand path or Sundara Kanda. It was a Sanskrit poem by the renowned sage Valmiki. The chapter was afterward translated into Ramcharitmanas by Goswami Tulsidas from the Awadhi language. In general, Sundarkand refers to The Book of Beauty. 

This book primarily depicts the magnificence of the devotion and revelation of Lord Hanuman and his abilities during the Ramayana fight between evil King Ravana and Lord Rama. The seven kand characters in the Ramayana are Bala Kanda, Ayodhya Kanda, Aranya Kanda, Kishkindha Kanda, Sundara Kanda, Yuddha Kanda, and Uttara Kanda. Lord Ram serves as the main character in each chapter or Kand.

What Sunderkand illustrates in mythology?

It is a passage from the renowned poet Goswami Tulsidas, Ramcharitmanas. One of the seven kands (sections) that make up the epic Ramayana, Sunderkand is said to have the power to prevent wrongdoing.   • It is forbidden to stand up when reciting this epic. Avoid using phones, alarms, chatting, or taking breaks.
  • Before starting the reading session, take a bath and wear light-coloured clothing.

  • You can achieve salvation by reading the first verse daily for six months.

Reading one verse or Sargam of Sundara Kandam is equal to chanting Gayathri Japam 1000 times.

Best time for Sunderkand path

A group Sunderkand path can be done at any time but gives maximum benefit when done after 07:00 PM. Sunderkand done in a group with music is Ideal. It is done in a group with music around 05:00 AM on Tuesday, Saturday, on full moon day, and no moon day is the ultimate for getting benefits.

  • Make sure you read the entire Sundara Kanda once in ONE full day.
  • Read verses 1-35 on the first day and the rest of the verses on the SECOND day.
  • Read verses 1-37 on the first day, 37-40 on the second day, and the rest on the THIRD day.
  • Recite verses 1-15 on the first day, 16-37 on the second day, the 38th chapter, on the third day, 39-54 on the fourth day, and the rest on the FIFTH day.
  • Starting Friday, daily read nine verses and complete the reading on the next one. EIGHT days
  • Read within NINE days stopping each day on 5th, 15th, 20th, 26th, 28th, 40th, 52nd, 80th and 68th verses.
  • Daily read six verses and complete it on the TWELFTH day.
  • For 22 days, read two verses a day, five on the 23rd day, three on the 24th day, six on the 25th day, three on the 26th day, four on the 27th day, and the rest three verses on the TWENTY-EIGHT DAY.
