The churning of the sea took place during the month of  Shravan. 14 different items emerged from the depths of the Samudra during the Samudra Manthan. Thirteen of them which divided among the Devas. The 14th object remained untouched as it was Halahal, the deadliest poison known. Lord Shiva held Halahal in His throat to save the world. Such was the impact of the poison that Lord Shiva&#8217;s throat turned blue. Thus, Lord Shiva also gained the name of Neelkantha. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To reduce the effects of the poison, Lord Shiva wore a crescent moon on his head.  The Devas offered water of the holy Ganges to provide some relief. All these events took place in the month of Shravan. So is considered very auspicious if one offers the water of holy Ganges to Lord Shiva during this month. Due to the cooling effects of sandalwood, it is considered beneficial to offer sandalwood paste to Lord Shiva. Mondays during this month are devoted to Lord Shiva. This is done in order to get divine blessings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worshipping Lord Shiva in the month of Shravan is believed to have tremendous positive effects on followers. These benefits include success in professional and personal fronts, removal of negative effects of bad planets. Also gaining health, wealth, and prosperity and getting rid of ailments or illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Shravan_Somwar\"><\/span> Shravan Somwar<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mondays that fall in the month of  Shravan are called Shravan Somwar.  Shravan Somwar observed during this holy month is considered to be highly rewarding for devouts. Devotees offer Bel leaves, milk, and sacred water of Ganges to Lord Shiva and fast till sunset. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Solah_Somwar\"><\/span>Solah Somwar<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Solah Somwar refers to the 16 Mondays that start from the first Monday of the month of Shravan. People observed fast for 16 Mondays. Mondays are believed to be devoted to Lord Shiva. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are quite a few reasons to observe fast on Mondays of  Shravan. People who encounter issues in their marital life or delays in marriages observe such fast. The appeasement of Lord Shiva is believed to be achieved by observing fasts on these days. Lord Shiva blesses these devotees with prosperity and joy. Goddess Parvati observed Solah Somvar fast so she could marry Lord Shiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuesdays in the month of Shravan are believed to be devoted to Goddess Parvati. The fasting observed on those days is called Mangal Gauri Vrat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_day_of_Shravan_2020\"><\/span>First day of  Shravan 2020<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_Northern_India_Rajasthan_Uttar_Pradesh_Bihar_Uttaranchal_Madhya_Pradesh_Punjab_Himachal_Pradesh_Jharkhand_and_Uttrakhand\"><\/span>For Northern India ( Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttrakhand )<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Northern States of India, the month of Shravan will start on Monday, 6 July 2020, and will end on Monday, 3 August 2020. Every Monday Shravan, Somvar Vrat\u00a0will be observed. These days are 6th July, 13th July, 20th July, 27th July and 3rd August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_Southern_and_Western_India_Andhra_Pradesh_Goa_Maharashtra_Gujarat_Karnataka_Tamil_Nadu\"><\/span>For Southern and Western India ( <strong>Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka &amp; Tamil Nadu<\/strong> )<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Southern &amp; Western States of India, the month of Shravan will start on Tuesday, 21 July 2020, and will end on Wednesday, 19 August 2020. On every Monday,  Savan Somvar Vrat\u00a0will be observed.
