Many people believe that Goddess Durga slew the demonic Mahishasura on the occasion of Dussehra around Navratri.
It represents Mahishasurmardini’s triumph and the destruction of evil. A notion associated with Dussehra ties us all to the Mahabharata era.
Per the Mahabharata, this day marks Arjuna’s triumph over the whole Kaurava force with his power.

Because Dussehra represents the victory of light over darkness Lord Ram defeated the king Ravana. And when Goddess Durga slew the buffalo monster Mahishasura. This day has been commemorated by doing pooja for ‘Astra,’ meaning weaponry.
Shri Ram with his brothers Lakshman, Bharat, & Shatrughan is prayed to.
Coins, rice, flowers, jaggery, roli, fruits, and churas are also presented to the deity during the pooja. Diya, dhoop, & agarbatti are all lighted as an element of the rite.
During Vijayadashami, it is typical to see flaming effigies portraying Ravana, Kumbhkaran, & Meghanath.
It is, nonetheless, a good day for performing many puja rites.
