Ketu in Vedic Astrology is a shadow planet. It has no head. Planet Ketu is considered inauspicious in astrology. Still, Ketu occupies an important place in Vedic astrology. A demon named Swarabhanu got suspicious and disguised as gods and sat near Suryadev and Chandradeva.
As Lord Vishnu started offering the nectar to Swarabhanu, Surya and Chandra informed Lord Vishnu about him. Angry upon this, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra and cut Swarbhanu’s head from his body. But before this, a few drops of nectar had gone to his throat, due to which he lived in both head and the body. Ever since the head is called Rahu and the torso is called Ketu.
From the astronomical point of view, Ketu has no existence although the presence of this planet has been told in Vedic astrology itself. That too in the form of a shadow planet which gives results according to its position and the planet sitting with it. Ketu offers various results depending upon in which house it sits in the horoscope. There are some houses of astrology in which Ketu is auspicious results and makes a native wise. However, it also offers hazardous results when in a negative position.
