The story behind the name Maa Katyayani

According to mythology, there was a sage Katyayan who had no daughter. One day he had done severe penance with the desire to have Mata Bhagwati as his daughter. Mata Jagdamba was pleased with his severe penance, and she was born as a daughter of Maharishi Katyayan, thus, Maa Katyayani. 

Mata Katyayani, who was born as the daughter of Maharishi Katyayan, was a very virtuous girl. There was no other virtuous, beautiful, and knowledgeable girl like her in the whole world. During the days of Navratri, whoever worships the Maa with devotion, his mind always remains fixed in the cycle of obedience.
