As per mythology, the festival of Holi holds many stories. But, all lead to one lesson—the victory of the good over the evil.
The most famous connection with the festival of colors is the tale of the demon Holika and her brother, King Hiranyakashipu. Known for his power and position, the King was full of pride. Thus, wanted everybody to worship and follow him. If he was this way, his son was totally different from him.
Son of King Hiranyakashipu was Prahlad. He, instead of worshipping his father, worshiped Lord Vishnu. This is why the King looked for his sister for help.
Holika made Prahlad sit on her lap in the blazing fire to prove that she is immune to burning, and Prahlad would get burned in the fire. But, what happened was totally different from it. Lord Vishnu saved his devotee from burning, and the demon Holika paid the price of her act.
Another tale pertains to Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. According to mythology, Krishna was in deep love with Radha. But, due to the difference in his skin tone with her, he confronted comments from people around him. To which, Lord Krishna applied colors on his “Radhe” and the Gopis didn’t look upon his complexion.
