The Mangala Gouri Puja is observed by Hindu women to get a husband of their choice. According to Hindu Mythology, The Goddess Parvati also known as Gouri is worshipped on this day. Women observe fast for 16 to 20 every Tuesday during the month of Shravan. Girls facing Mangalik dosh in should also practice the puja.

A very interesting legend is related to this auspicious puja. Once there lived an affluent Merchant named Dharmapala. He was married to a beautiful devoted wife. However, the couple was childless. So, Dharmapala and his wife worshipped Goddess Parvati. Soon they were blessed with a son, but fate was not in their favor.
A prediction came that their son won’t be able to survive for long. The pair married off their son to a girl who would never face widowhood. This way the wise couple’s son lived for a hundred years.
As we already know that the Vrat is observed every Tuesday in the Shravana month. So now let’s delve deep into the core rituals that take place. The women wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Then the Goddess Parvati idol is placed on a red cloth. Further, the devotee light a lamp made of wheat flour and sixteen cotton wicks. Next, the Kalash Staphana takes place too.
The whole puja is carried out by following the Shodoroshopochar ritual. Illustrative images of Navgrahas are made of wheat and rice. Along with the idol of Goddess Gauri, Lord Ganesha is kept next to her. In addition, vermillion, sandalwood flowers, etc are offered to Lord Ganesha.
Further, the Navragaha Puja takes place followed by Shodasha Puja. In this puja, 16 types of flowers are offered along with mirror bangles and combs to the diety. Finally, after the 16 days fast is over the idol of the Goddess is immersed in water.
