Choghadiya is a Hindu calendar system that determines auspicious times for performing tasks during the day or night. Based on the calculations, one can identify when to engage in spiritual practices, new ventures, traditional ceremonies, or travel. It is categorised into 7 periods, of which some are auspicious and others inauspicious. Amrit, Shubh, and Labh fall into the auspicious category. On the other hand, Udveg, Kaal, and Rog do not yield good results and can create obstacles, whereas Char yields neutral results.

How to Calculate Choghadiya?

Step 1: Identify the sunrise and sunset timings

Step 2: Divide the total time span by 8

Step 3: Calculate each choghadiya timing and bifurcate it as per the allocated time

Step 4: Identify the day, ruling planet lord, and first choghadiya

Step 5: Identify the favourable and unfavourable choghadiya

For example: The time for sunrise is 5:35 A.M., and for sunset is 6:15 P.M on Monday. The time in between is 760 minutes. Divide 760 by 8 = 95 minutes slot from 5:35 A.M. Now the first choghadiya as per Monday, for which the ruling planet is Moon, will be Amrit. From Amrit, the order follows the time slots.

05:35 A.M. – 07:10 A.M: Amrit Choghadiya

07:10 A.M. – 08:45 A.M: Kaal Choghadiya

08:45 A.M. – 10:20 A.M: Shubh Choghadiya

10:20 A.M. – 11:55 A.M: Rog Choghadiya

11:55 A.M. – 01:30 P.M: Udveg Choghadiya

01:30 P.M. – 03:05 P.M: Char Choghadiya

03:05 P.M. – 04:40 P.M: Labh Choghadiya

04:40 P.M. – 06:15 P.M: Amrit Choghadiya

What Are Different Types of Choghadiya?

There are seven types of choghadiya, which follow a sequential order: Udveg, Char, Labh, Amrit, Kaal, Shubh, and Rog. Identify which are auspicious and inauspicious and what work can be taken.

Udveg Choghadiya

Udveg Choghadiya, ruled by the Sun, is an inauspicious period as it points towards anxiety and restlessness. Thus, during this time, if you are planning for something new, which can be travel, traditional ceremonies, medical procedures, or new business ventures in this duration, one should avoid it. Further, for administrative tasks, government-related tasks, or dealing with authorities, it is an auspicious time.

Char Choghadiya

Char choghadiya, ruled by Venus, is neither too good nor too bad a period. It stands somewhere in between; thus, the effects during this time are neutral. This time is best for travel and movement. So, if you are planning for a long or a short trip, it is advisable to choose this duration. Thus, if any of your plan requires momentum, this choghadiya brings good results.

Labh Choghadiya

Labh Choghadiya, ruled by Mercury, is one of the auspicious periods. As the planet governs intellect, communication, wit, and humour, it is one of the best times to learn new skills or start an education. Generally, everything in this period yields gains and profits. Furthermore, as a planet is connected to respect and fame, you will observe respect and fame.

Amrit Choghadiya

Amrit Choghadiya, ruled by the Moon, is the best period among all. Every work taken in this period is auspicious and most favourable because the moon is a benefic planet. It governs one’s mind and emotions. Whether it is starting a new business, taking a trip, or engaging in a spiritual activity, you can jump in without delay or second thought.

Kaal Choghadiya

Kaal Choghadiya, ruled by planet Saturn, is another inauspicious period. Saturn is a planet that rewards karma and past-life deeds. Thus, in such a time frame, any new beginnings, such as traditional ceremonies and travel, should be avoided. Furthermore, from a business and wealth-accumulation perspective, it yields favourable results. Any work related to oil and iron yields good results during this period.

Shubh Choghadiya

Shubh Choghadiya, ruled by planet Jupiter, is also one of the auspicious periods during the day or night. As Jupiter is the planet of wisdom, knowledge, growth, expansion, and fortune, it is also one of the auspicious timings for new ventures or partnerships. Whether it is marriage or any other ritual, you can, without a doubt, choose this choghadiya.
