Mahashivratri 2020

According to Expert Astrologers, Monday is the most appropriate and fruitful day to worship Lord Shiva. Devotees celebrate the festival of Shivaratri every month. However, Mahashivaratri is celebrated as Mahaparva in the month of Falgun according to Hindu Calendar.

According to beliefs, on this day, Shiva was married to Mother Parvati and, created the preservation and destruction of the universe. Shiva Puja at Mahashivaratri should be done only during the auspicious period. In Hinduism, there is a tradition of worshiping four times on the night of Shivaratri.

This year in 2020, the auspicious time of worship on Mahashivaratri will start from 5.20 pm on 21st Feb, till 7.02 pm on February 22, Saturday. Worship time night will be from 6.41 pm in the evening, till 12.52 in the night. The next day, people will worship Lord Shiva in the temples in the morning.

According to Shivpuran, the fasting person should wear tilak of Bhasma on the forehead and Rudraksha mala on the neck. He/she should go to the shiv temple and worship Shiva and anoint with Bael leaves, honey, milk, curd, sugar and Ganges water. After that, they should take a pledge to pay respectfully.

Shiv Rudrabhishek

Rudra is another name for Lord Shiva. Rudra means one who defeats all sufferings and destroys ghosts. Rudrabhishek is the best way to worship Shiva. If Rudrabhishek is done at the right time and according to the rules, then it can give you immense blessings of Mahadev. Rudrabhishek is done on Shivling only. By doing Rudrabhishek on different Shivlinga, different results also vary.

Devotees use different materials at the time of consecration. Let us know what different materials give results at the time of consecration:

• Anointing with a stream of ghee increases descent.

• The person becomes a scholar by the consecration of sugar mixed with milk.

• To get rid of long term diseases, anoint with honey.

• Consecration with cow’s milk provides healing.

• Anointing with sugar-mixed water makes it easy to get children.

• Anointing with Bhasma brings liberation and salvation to a person.

• In some special circumstances, devotees anoint Shiva also with oil.
