The Sharad Purnima Vrat Katha tells the story of King Vikramaditya, who ruled a kingdom called Ujjain. He was a just and wise ruler whose subject loves him. However, he was not happy because he did not have a child. He prayed to Goddess Laxmi to bless him with a child; she appeared before him and granted his wish.
