Janmashtami is one of the major Hindu festivals celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna. Every year, Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. According to religious beliefs, on this date, Lord Krishna was born under the Rohini Nakshatra during the Dwapar Yuga as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

On the day of Janmashtami, the atmosphere is filled with religious ceremonies, devotion, and worship, while the next day, Dahi Handi fills devotees with joy and excitement. Although Dahi Handi is celebrated throughout the whole country, it is especially popular in Maharashtra, Goa, and some parts of Uttar Pradesh.

When Is Kanha’s Chhathi?

Just as Chhathi (Chhathihari) is celebrated six days after the birth of a newborn baby, similarly, Kanha’s Chhathi is celebrated six days after Kanha’s birth, which is six days after Janmashtami.

Kanha’s Chhathi is celebrated with great excitement both at home and in temples. On this day, Laddu Gopal is bathed, dressed in new clothes, adorned and offered his favourite foods. On this day, women also sing sohar and congratulatory songs. According to the Panchang, Kanha’s Chhathi is celebrated on the chaturdashi tithi in the month of Bhadrapada.

Kanha’s Chhathi Date: Thursday, September 10, 2026. But according to some beliefs, Krishna’s Chhathi can also be celebrated on September 9, 2026.
