Janmashtami is one of the major Hindu festivals celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna. Every year, Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. According to religious beliefs, on this date, Lord Krishna was born under the Rohini Nakshatra during the Dwapar Yuga as the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

On the day of Janmashtami, Lord Krishna’s child form is worshipped in homes and temples; Kanha is placed on a swing, and Makhan Mishri bhog is offered to him. In 2026, the holy festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated on Friday, September 4. But the celebration does not end with Janmashtami; after Lord Krishna’s birth, Dahi Handi and Kanha’s Chhathi are also celebrated with great excitement.
