Anant Chaturdashi 2026: In Hinduism, Anant Chaturdashi has special religious significance. On this day, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in his Anant form. That is why it is known as Anant Chaturdashi. On Anant Chaturdashi, the ten-day Ganeshotsav also ends, and Lord Ganesha’s visarjan is performed. When Is Anant Chaturdashi 2026?

According to the calculation of the panchang, Anant Chaturdashi is celebrated every year on the Chaturdashi of the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month. The Chaturdashi Tithi will begin at 11:18 PM on September 24 and end at 11:06 PM on September 25. On 25 September, at the time of sunrise, the Chaturdashi Tithi will be present. According to Udaya Tithi, Friday, September 25, 2026, is the right day to observe the Anant Chaturdashi fast and perform the puja.

• Puja Muhurat: The most auspicious time for Anant Chaturdashi puja is from 06:28 AM to 11:06 PM.

Anant Chaturdashi: Puja Vidhi

• On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, wake up early in the morning, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Light up a diya in the home temple and take a sankalp to keep the fast.
• After this, prepare the wooden platform for the puja. First, spread a red- or yellow-coloured cloth on the platform, then place a picture of Lord Vishnu in his Anant form.
• Now, place a kalash filled with water near the platform. Draw a swastik on the kalash, fill it with pure water, add betel nut, flowers, and mango leaves, then place a coconut on top of the kalash. 
• Light a Ghee Diya near the place of worship. Now apply sandalwood Tilak to the Lord and offer flowers, Bhog, Tulsi leaves, sweets, etc. Also sprinkle water and Roli on the 14-knotted Anant thread and place it in front of the god. Now take flowers in your hand and listen to or recite the Anant Chaturdashi katha. After this, do the aarti of the god. After the puja, pick up the Anant Sutra and tie it around your arm.

Rules for Tying and Removing the Anant Sutra

• Women should tie the Anant Sutra on their left arm, and men should tie it on their right arm.

• While tying the Anant Sutra, chant the mantra “Anantasootam Dharayami Anantasya Mahatmanah. Anantavrata Dharanena Mama Sarvartha Siddhyartham.”
• After keeping the Anant Sutra tied for 14 days, remove it and keep it in a sacred place or immerse it in water. Some people keep it tied until next year’s Anant Chaturdashi.
• As long as the Anant Sutra is tied around the hand, one should follow a sattvic lifestyle.
• If the Anant Sutra breaks in between or falls somewhere, one should not take it as a sign of misfortune or a bad omen.

The Mystery Behind the 14 Knots of the Anant Sutra

The Anant Sutra is made from a raw thread and knotted with 14 knots. But why are there only 14 knots, and what is the mystery behind them? The Ananta Sutra’s 14 knots are associated with the 14 Lok’s. These 14 Lok’s are also described in the Puranas. They include 7 higher Lok’s and 7 lower Lok’s. The 7 higher Lok’s are Bhu Lok, Bhuvar Lok, Swarg Lok, Mahar Lok, Jana Lok, Tapa Lok, and Satya Lok. The 7 lower Lok’s are Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Talatala, Mahatala, Rasatala, and Patal Lok. Religious texts describe the 7 higher Lok’s as above the Earth and the 7 lower Lok’s as below the Earth. The 14 knots of the Anant Sutra are considered the sign of these 14 Lok’s.

That which has neither a beginning nor an end is called ‘Anant’. In religious beliefs, lord vishnu is associated with many forms. Sheshnag is also called Anant. On Anant Chaturdashi, people worship Lord Vishnu and tie a 14-knot Anant sutra. According to religious beliefs, fasting and doing puja on this day helps a person get relief from sorrow and difficulties. Mythological stories also describe the Pandavas observing the Anant Chaturdashi fast in the Bhadrapada month to find relief from difficulties.
