Shardiya Navratri 2026 Day 9: Maha Navami is the last day of the nine-day Navratri festival. On this day, devotees worship the ninth form of Maa Durga, Maa Siddhidatri. She is considered the final goddess among Durga’s nine forms. Worshipping her brings fame, strength, and wealth, and Maa fulfils all devotees’ wishes. According to religious scriptures, she is the Devi of spiritual powers and salvation. Let’s find out when Maha Navami falls during Shardiya Navratri, which auspicious yog’s will form on this day, and the puja vidhi, Katha, remedies, and Aarti of Maa Siddhidatri.
Shardiya Navratri is a nine-day religious festival in which different forms of Maa Durga are worshipped each day. According to the Panchang, Shardiya Navratri begins on the Pratipada Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashwin and continues till the Navami Tithi. In the year 2026, there is some confusion about the date of Maha Navami.
This year, Navami Tithi falls on October 19 and 20, so it will be observed on both days. This is due to differences in the Udaya Tithi (the lunar date at sunrise). Navami Tithi begins at 10:51 AM on 19 October and continues till 12:50 PM on 20 October.
Navami Tithi begins after 10:51 AM on 19 October, so Navami puja, havan, night-time puja, and Sandhi Puja will be performed on this day. Those who follow the Udaya Tithi tradition can perform Navami puja, havan, and Kanya Puja on 20 October. Those who are observing the Navratri fast can break it before 12:50 PM on 20 October, as the Dashami Tithi begins after that.
On 19 October, during Maha Navami of Shardiya Navratri, Gajakesari Yog will form due to the favourable positions of Jupiter and the Moon. Gajakesari Yog is considered a symbol of knowledge, happiness, and prosperity. Due to Saturn’s position, Shash Raj Yog will also be present.
After Maa Mahagauri, the ninth day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Siddhidatri. According to the Devi Puran, Lord Shiva received spiritual powers through the blessings of Maa Siddhidatri, and half of his body became that of the Goddess; after this, he became known as Ardhanarishvara. To do the puja of Maa Siddhidatri on the ninth day of Navratri, wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean clothes. Wearing peacock-green clothes on this day is considered auspicious. After that, hold Akshat and flowers in your hands and take a vow to observe the fast or to perform the puja.
Now purify the idol or picture of Maa Siddhidatri with Gangajal and offer her a red chunari, a flower garland, sindoor, and items used by married women. Maa Siddhidatri is offered Suji halwa, puri, kheer, coconut, and sesame seeds. You can also offer Panchamrit or a mixture of five dry fruits. Then chant Maa Siddhidatri’s mantras and perform the aarti. If you are performing Kanya Puja on Navami, then invite young girls and a young boy(Batuk Bhairav) to your home and worship them.

According to mythology, at the beginning of creation, darkness was spread everywhere, and the universe had not yet been created. Lord Shiva then performed severe penance to please Adi Shakti, the supreme Goddess of power. Pleased with his devotion, Adi Shakti appeared in two forms. One of these forms was of Maa Siddhidatri.
It is believed that Lord Shiva received all eight spiritual powers through the blessings of Maa Siddhidatri. These are Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitva, and Vashitva. Through her blessings, half of Lord Shiva’s body became that of the Goddess, and he came to be known as Ardhanarishvara. This form of Lord Shiva shows that Shiva and Shakti complement each other and that the universe can function through their combined power.
According to another katha, a powerful demon named Mahishasura spread terror across the three worlds, and the gods were expelled from heaven. All the gods then approached Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh for help. A divine power emerged from the combined energy of all three gods and came to be worshipped as Maa Siddhidatri. Using her powers, Devi destroyed the demon army and eventually killed Mahishasura, freeing the gods from fear.
