Kajali Teej’s other names are Bundi Teej and Satudi Teej. Basically, it occurs after the Haryaali Teej that is the Choti Teej and this is the Badi Teej. Moreover, it is to proclaim the arrival of monsoon and bidding farewell to the harsh summer heat.

  • Married women observe fast for a prosperous married life. However, in some cases, unmarried girls also take up the fast to get a good husband.
  • Further, dishes are made out of Sattu that includes wheat gram rice and barley.

  • In Rajasthan, Bundi, the Kajari Teej is the most renowned. A procession takes place where the Teej Goddess is decorated and carried. The parade consists of camels, elephants, and folk dancers. It’s all in all an extravagant event, that people from different parts of the world come to witness.
  • Whereas in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh swing on Jhula and dance on fresh fields. In central India, people celebrate the day with great frenzy.

Legends of Kajari Teej

According to Indian mythology, Kajari was a dense forest in Central India that was under the king Dadurai. The subjects adored the king and use to sing songs in praise of the forest. After the death of the king his wife did Sati, the pupils were upset by this news. The true dedication of a wife towards his husband led to the emergence of Kajari Teej.

In addition, there another tale of Goddess Parvati fasting for 108 years for Lord Shiva. Parvati did the fast for marital bliss between the two. However, Lord Shiva was skeptical, but after the harsh act of her wife, he caved in to become one. Their holy union took place on Krishna Paksha of Bhaprada month. So this day is now recognized as Kajari Teej.
