Shardiya Navratri 2026 Day 5: In the sacred nine-day festival of Shardiya Navratri, devotees worship the nine different forms of Maa Durga each day. The fifth day is dedicated to worshipping Maa Skandamata, who is the fifth form of Maa Durga. Worshipping Maa Skandamata, who sits on a lotus flower, makes every impossible task possible. Childless couples may also receive the blessing of having a child. Come, let’s find out when the fifth day of Shardiya Navratri is, which auspicious yog’s will form on this date, how to worship Maa Skandamata, and which remedies to follow on this day.
This year, Shardiya Navratri begins on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and on Monday, October 19, it will be Maha Navami, which will be the last day of Navratri. Dussehra will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The fifth day of Shardiya Navratri falls on the Panchami Tithi in the Ashwin month, which will occur on Thursday, October 15, 2026. On this day, devotees will worship Maa Skandamata, the fifth form of Maa Durga.
According to astrological calculations and the Panchang, on the fifth day of Shardiya Navratri, several auspicious yog’s and important planetary positions will form. The Jyeshtha Nakshatra will also be there on Panchami Tithi. Upang Lalita Vrat, also known as Lalita Panchami, will also be observed on this day.
After worshipping Maa Kushmanda, devotees worship Maa Skandamata on the fifth day of Navratri. On this day, after bathing, wear white, yellow, or green clothes. Firstly, clean the place of worship and place a picture or idol of Maa Skandamata there. Offer roli, sandalwood paste, flowers, bhog, and fruits to Maa. Maa Skandamata is especially fond of bananas as a bhog. You can also offer kheer and yellow sweets. After that, chant mantras, perform aarti, and distribute prasad to everyone.
Maa Skandamata’s ride is a lion. It is believed that Maa lived in the mountains and awakened new energy, life, and awareness in all living beings. She is the mother of Kumar Kartikeya, also known as Skanda; that is the reason why she is called as Skandamata. In her idol, Lord Skanda is seen sitting in her lap as a child. It is believed that even a foolish person can become wise through the blessings of Maa Skandamata.
According to the katha associated with Maa Skandamata on the fifth day of Navratri, a demon named Tarakasura performed severe penance to please Lord Brahma. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Brahma asked him to seek a boon; Tarakasura then asked for the boon of immortality. Lord Brahma explained that everyone who is born must eventually die, so he could not grant him immortality.
Tarakasura then thought carefully and asked Lord Brahma to grant him death only at the hands of Lord Shiva’s son. He asked for this boon because he thought that Mahadev was an Adiyogi who would never marry. Therefore, he thought that Lord Shiva would never have a son and that he would become immortal by receiving this boon.
Lord Brahma granted his request by saying, “Tathastu,” which means “So be it.” After receiving the boon, Tarakasura’s tyranny increased across the three worlds. Troubled by the demon, all the gods approached Lord Shiva and prayed for relief.
After some time, Lord Shiva married Maa Parvati, and Kumar Kartikeya was born. When Kartikeya grew up, he killed Tarakasura. It is also believed that the poet Kalidasa’s works, including the epic Raghuvansham and Meghaduta, were made possible by the blessings of Maa Skandamata.
Jay Teri Ho Skand Mata.
Paanchwa Naam Tumhara Aata.
Sabke Man Ki Janan Hari.
Jag Janani Sabki Mahtari.
Teri Jot Jalata Rahu Main.
Hardam Tujhe Dhyata Rahu Main.
Kai Naamo Se Tujhe Pukara.
Mujhe Ek Hai Tera Sahara.
Kahi Pahadon Par Hai Dera.
Kai Shahron Me Tera Basera.
Har Mandir Me Tere Najare.
Gun Gaaye Tere Bhakt Pyare.
Bhakti Apni Mujhe Dila Do.
Shakti Meri Bigadi Bana Do.
Indra Aadi Devta Mil Sare.
Kare Pukar Tumhare Dware.
Dusht Daitya Jab Chadh Kar Aaye.
Tu Hi Khanda Hath Uthaye.
Daason Ko Sada Bachane Aayi.
Bhakt Ki Aas Pujane Aayi.
