When Is Dussehra in 2026?

This year, Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, will be on Tuesday, 20 October, 2026. According to the Panchang, the Dashami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashwin will begin at 12:50 PM on 20 October and continue until 2:11 PM on 21 October. According to the Udaya Tithi, Dussehra will be celebrated on 20 October, and Ravana Dahan will also take place on this day.

However, according to some other Panchangs, Dussehra will be celebrated on 21 October, and Aparajita Puja will also be performed on this day. Because Navami Tithi will be in effect on Tuesday, 20 October, for this reason many people will also break their Navami fast that day. In such a situation, you can celebrate Vijayadashami on either 20 October or 21 October, depending on your region’s traditions and customs.

Yog’s Forming on Vijayadashami

According to the Hindu Panchang, Shool Yog and Ganda Yog will be formed on Vijayadashami. Along with this, the Shravana Nakshatra and Dhanishtha Nakshatra will also be present on this day. On the day of Vijayadashami, people worship their weapons and tools before Ravana Dahan in the Vijay Muhurat. On 20 October, the Vijay Muhurat will be from 1:59 PM to 2:45 PM. After this, puja will be performed in the afternoon muhurat, from 1:14 PM to 3:30 PM. Ravana Dahan is traditionally performed during Pradosh Kaal, after sunset. However, it will be best to check the local Panchang and information from the event venue to know when Ravana Dahan will take place in your city.

Durga Visarjan On 20th or 21st October?

After Navratri, Maa Durga’s Visarjan will be performed on Dashami Tithi, on the day of Dussehra. This year, Dashami Tithi will begin on 20 October at 12:50 PM and continue until 2:12 PM on 21 October. Based on the Udaya Tithi, some people will perform Durga Visarjan on 21 October, while in some places Dussehra will be celebrated on 20 October.

20 October will fall on a Tuesday. In Hindu traditions, Maa Durga is considered not only a goddess but also a daughter. Just as people do not send their daughters back from their maternal homes on Tuesdays, in the same way, performing Maa Durga’s Visarjan on Tuesday will also not be considered auspicious. It is believed that if the Goddess departs on Tuesday, then she will go on a rooster, which is considered inauspicious. It is believed that this may lead to failure and loss of life and property. For these reasons, Durga Visarjan may take place on 21 October in many places.
