Ganesh Chaturthi 2026: In Hinduism, Ganesh Chaturthi is considered one of the most important festivals. On this day, devotees bring Bappa home and celebrate Ganeshotsav with great excitement for 10 days. Come, let’s find out when Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated this year, what the puja time and shubh muhurat will be, and when Bappa’s Visarjan will take place.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across the country, including Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, and Gujarat, with deep devotion. According to the Hindu Panchang, Ganesh Chaturthi starts every year on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada (Bhado) month and ends on the Chaturdashi Tithi. For 10 days, the excitement of Ganesh Chaturthi stays. This year, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated from 14 September 2026 to 25 September 2026.
There is a lot of confusion among devotees about the date of Ganesh Chaturthi. The reason for this confusion is that Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated the day after Hartalika Teej. However, this year both festivals fall on the same date: 14 September 2026. In fact, on 14 September, Tritiya tithi will be present at sunrise, and after sunrise, Chaturthi Tithi will be present. Ganesh Chaturthi puja is considered auspicious to perform during the Madhyahna period on 14 September. This is why, according to religious tradition, the Ganesh Chaturthi festival should be celebrated on 14 September 2026.

Collect all the puja items in one place. After this, clean the puja area and sprinkle some gangajal over it. Place a wooden platform where you kept Bappa’s idol, and spread a cloth over it. Keep in mind that the platform should face north or east. You can decorate the area however you like.
Now draw a swastik in the centre of the platform and put rice grains in the middle. After this, take water, rice grains and flowers in your right hand and take a resolution for Ganapati sthapana. Some people keep Ganapati at home for one and a half days, some for three days, some for five days and some for ten days. You can take sankalp according to your faith and convenience, then release the water held in your hand.
After this, in the afternoon at the shubh muhurat, place Lord Ganesha’s idol on the rice grains. Sprinkle gangajal over it and chant the mantra “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah.” Place a copper kalash filled with water next to Lord Ganesha’s idol. Put a coin, betel nut, flowers, mango leaves and coconut inside it.
Now apply sandalwood and roli tilak to Lord Ganesha. After offering Rice grains, mauli, flowers (red hibiscus), durva grass, bhog and other puja items, light up a ghee diya. And then sing the “Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh…” aarti.
Keep in mind that you must perform puja and aarti every morning and evening for as many days as you have decided to keep Ganpati at home. After completing the sankalp, make sure to perform Ganapati visarjan according to the traditional rituals and pray, “Bappa, always shower your blessings on our family.”
