Ram Navami: A Day To Cherish & Remember

Ram Navami, will be celebrated on 13th April this year, that is, the last day of Chaitra Navratri.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama, a divine incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born to Queen Kausalya and King Dasharatha, in Ayodhya during the ‘Treta Yuga‘ on this day. He descended on earth in a human form to end the prevailing injustice and save humanity.

It is believed that Lord Rama fulfills all the wishes of those who worship him on this day and it is even better if couples worship him together.

Preamble

To get the most benefit out of this day, it is important to follow all the steps and rules while performing the rituals. Here are some things you will need to perform the ritual:

‘Roli’ (vermilion), ‘Aipan’ ,’Chaaval’ (rice), ‘Jal’ (holy water), ‘Phool’ (flowers), ‘Chandan’ (sandalwood), ‘Haldi’ (turmeric), ‘Agarbatti’ (Incense stick), ‘Diya’ (lamp), ‘Ghee’ (oil) one ‘Ghantee’ (bell) and one ‘Shankh’.

To start with, the youngest girl child of the family applies vermilion on foreheads of everyone. Then begins the ‘Pooja’!

First, cleanse the statue of Lord Ram with holy water. Then apply ‘tilak’ of ‘kumkum’, ‘Chandan’ (sandalwood) and ‘haldi’ (turmeric) on his forehead and honor him with flowers. After this, light a ‘diya’ (lamp) and Incense stick and start reciting prayers. Keep in mind to read ‘raamarakshaastrot’ while worshipping.

At the end, holy water is sprinkled on everyone. It’s believed that sprinkling holy water purifies the soul.

सिंह: राम दरबार पर सिन्दूर चढ़ाये और श्री  सीता रामाष्टक का पाठ अति लाभकारी रहेगा।

Offering rose flowers and basil at Lord Rama’s temple and reading ‘aditya hridaya stotra’ will be beneficial for you.
कन्या: राम दरबार पर गुलाब के फूल और तुलसी चढ़ाये और आदित्य हृदय स्तोत्र  का पाठ अति लाभकारी रहेगा।

Libra:

Offer ‘kajal’ at Lord Rama’s temple and read ‘Shree Ram Raksha stotra’.
