Death of Swami Vivekananda

  • Both sugar and asthma plagued Swami Vivekananda. He estimated that he wouldn’t live past the age of 40 due to his illnesses. His prophecy came true, and he died at Ramakrishna Math on July 4, 1902. He was only 39 years old at the time.
  • On the banks of a river in Belur, his close ones gave him his final rites. The final rites of Ramakrishna Paramhansa, who was regarded as Swami Vivekananda’s mentor, were carried out on the other side of the same Ganga.
  • Since its inception in 1985, Swami Vivekananda’s birthday, which falls on January 12, is commemorated as National Youth Day.
