Thursdays And Yellow: Here’s Why You Must Wear Yellow Colour On Thursday

Why wear yellow clothes on Thursday

While Thursday for most of you is a day before the weekend finally starts, for someone like me and my pious mother, it’s a day to wear yellow, cook kadhi, because it’s literally yellow and maybe ask my sister to use besan for face pack because, again, it’s yellow.

While saying this, I am absolutely not complaining. In fact, I find it necessary and important. In addition to this, following the cosmic plan gives a great level of satisfaction. You will feel the same once you understand the Vedic importance of wearing yellow on Thursday.

Thursday & Lord Vishnu, a relation!!

In Hindu mythology, each day is dedicated to some lord. For example, Sunday is dedicated to Surya dev, on Tuesday we worship Lord Hanuman and so on. Likewise, Thursday is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and also Sai Baba.

While Brahma is the creator of the world. Shiva the destroyer. Vishnu, for the unaware, is the protector of the world. His role in Hinduism is to return to the earth in troubled times and restore the balance of good and evil. In thousands of years foregone, he is said to have incarnated nine times, but Hindus believe that he will reincarnate one last time when the world would be close to its end.

Lord Vishnu

Lord Vishnu in the Rig Veda finds mention multiple times alongside several other Gods including Indra Dev. However, in the later Vedic texts, his importance outshines other deities. He leads from the front in the later Vedic period with two of his incarnations, Rama and Krishna, even being a subject of the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata.

But, Why wear yellow on Thursday?

Thursdays, in Vedic science, is associated with Lord Vishnu and Sai Baba. It is a fact that these Gods, especially Lord Vishnu, love the colour yellow and thus is also known by the name Pitambar Dhari. Hence people opt to wear the same on Thursday. Devotees even fast on the day along with visiting temples and offering ghee and milk.

*However, if you are making any such offering, we would recommend you donate it packed and not waste it.

Also, Jupiter is the ruling planet of Thursday, which, owing to its size, is said to be the ruler of the Gods and other planets. Thus the Jupiter is also called Guru Brihaspati and so are Lord Vishnu and Sai Baba.

Sai Baba & Vishnu As Gurus

As a Guru, Sai Baba taught his devotees the moral code of love and forgiveness. In addition, he stressed the importance of helping others and advised them to offer charity in order to acquire the pleasure of inner peace. Moreover, he gave no distinction based on religion or caste. And all these traits of him; have won him the tag of one of the most admired Gurus ever known.

Similarly, Vishnu, as the supreme Guru to Lords, at multiple instances had advised the latter. He is also the mind behind Samudra Manthan.

The churning of the Milky Ocean is the story that explains how the Gods finally defeated the demons and became immortal. It was, for the unaware, Vishnu himself who advised the Lords to churn the ocean to recover treasures, including the elixir of immortality and Goddess Lakshmi.

However, knowing that Gods alone wouldn’t be able to churn the ocean all by themselves, he struck a deal with demons. He offered the demons a share of the elixir of immortality for their help and also advised Lords and Demons to use Mount Madura as a churning stick and serpent Vasuki, as the rope.

Later, when the elixir of immortality rose, Vishnu himself donned the form of Mohini, a beautiful woman to lure the demons and deprive them of the elixir. All this helped Gods defeat the demons and also tagged Lord Vishnu as Guru.
