Navratri First Day Pooja Vidhi-

The first day of the Pooja holds the significance of the foundation “Kalash”. This day commences the 9-day festival. To begin with, the worship, clean the worship area, and establish a worship idol of Goddess Shailputri on a neat wooden “chowki” (stool).

Further, put a clean red cloth on the chowki for “Kalash Sthapna”. Next, take a few rice grains and pray to Lord Ganesha to begin the Navratri Pooja. Later, put the rice grains in front of the worship idol of Lord Ganesha.

Afterward, fill the Kalash with clean water and add a few mongo leaves in the Kalash. Finally, place a coconut on the Kalash. Next, make the “Swastik” with Roli (red color powder) on the Kalash. To add the barley grains, make a round of cow dung on the Kalash. Next, set grains of barley in it.

Later, tie “Kalawa” (holy red thread) and Chunri (holy red cloth) on the coconut. In the end, set a big earthen lamp and fill it with soil. Further, sow some barley grains in the soil and add some water to ensure the grains grow. Now, establish the Kalash on the big earthen lamp.

In order to start the Pooja, smear vermilion on the forehead of Mata Shailputri, cover Goddess Shailputri with the holy red cloth. Light an earthen lamp with ghee. For offerings to the Goddess, put Supari, Ghee, fruits, Panchamrit, Panjiri, curd, milk, honey, jaggery, and turmeric.

Further, chant dhyana mantra, stuti mantra, and aarti of Shailputri. Take Sankalp and chant aarti of Goddess Durga.
